The Images and Copyright Office is entrusted with the protection of the important and historic photographic heritage of the Vatican Museums. Its main activities include, among others, providing for publishing or communication purposes the photographic reproductions of the works and images belonging to the Vatican Collections. The Office is responsible for managing, upon internal or external request, the photographic campaigns or documentary productions realised in relation to the Museum collections and the people who care for them on a daily basis.
Images, in analogue or digital format, may be granted for study purposes, for publishing activities, for display or for private use.
In the absence of available material, the Office, in collaboration with the Vatican Museums Photographic Laboratory, will organise new photographic shoots.
The provision and use of images relating to the Museum’s patrimony are governed by precise economic and regulatory procedures.
