Vatican Museums

It is the icon of Etruscan civilisation, it represents the most important nucleus of the Gregorian collection of the Pope's Museums, and is one of the masterpieces of the Vatican collections: it is the Regolini-Galassi Tomb, which for decades has never ceased to amaze and to reveal its secrets to those who study, investigate and restore it with scientific knowledge.
Thursday in the Museums on 13 October will in fact be entirely dedicated to the tomb, as well as to its extraordinary endowment, through the presentation of the novelties and results of the intense documentation, study and restoration work carried out in recent years. A long work in progress that has brought back previously unseen images and information on the entire tomb complex and its individual components: from precious metal vases to ceramics, from chariots to inscriptions and the famous gold jewellery, the restoration of which is still underway today thanks also to the generosity of the Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums.

The large number of speakers at the meeting, as well as their specific training, confirms the interdisciplinary nature of the analytical campaigns conducted through the fundamental contribution of the technical-scientific structures of the Vatican Museums and the involvement of a rich network of collaborators.
The greetings and introduction by the Director of the Vatican Museums, Barbara Jatta, will be followed by the intervention by of the Curator of the Department of Etruscan-Italic Antiquities, Maurizio Sannibale, who will then leave the floor to the other lecturers: Ulderico Santamaria and Fabio Morresi (Cabinet of Scientific Research applied to the Cultural Heritage of the Vatican Museums), Flavio De Angelis (University of Rome "Tor Vergata"), Fabio Marzaioli (University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli"), Giorgia Agresti (University of Tuscia), Flavia Callori and Fabiana Francescangeli (Metal and Ceramics Restoration Laboratory of the Vatican Museums).

During the conference, the two scientific volumes dedicated to the subject and recently published by Edizioni Musei Vaticani will also be presented: La pisside white-on-red Regolini-Galassi restaurata (The Regolini-Galassi white-on-red restored pyxis) and Principi etruschi in laboratorio.
