Translating Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel

From the static image to the image in movement

Study day
9 June 2016
Vatican Museums

The Vatican Museums join with the IULM for a study day on Thursday 9 June, dedicated to the many reproductions and “translations”, both photographic and filmographic, of the Sistine Chapel frescoes, which have contributed greatly to fuelling their mythical and iconic power.
This passage or “bridge” between the static image and the image in movement has stimulated an historic and methodological reflection on the critical language used, on the use of technical methods for filming, and on the social impact they have had in the reception of Michelangelo’s work.
