Leonardo da Vinci’s Saint Jerome

An unfinished masterpiece

10 June – 20 September 2022
Castle of Clos Lucé, Amboise, France

From 10 June to 20 September 2022, to celebrate the immortal spirit of Leonardo da Vinci in the very place he lived, the Castle of Clos Lucé of Amboise, in collaboration with the Vatican Museums, will dedicate an exhibition to the Renaissance genius’ unfinished masterpiece: Saint Jerome.

The exceptional Vatican loan sees the Pope’s Museums – three years after the artistic event in Saint Peter’s Square for the fifth centenary of the death of Leonardo – once again shine a light on the Tuscan artist and on one of his rare works whose authenticity has never been contested.

Indeed, the exhibition is jointly curated by the Director of the Vatican Museums, Barbara Jatta, and by the Director of the Department of Arts, Guido Cornini, who through essays and scientific research, trace precisely the unfinished nature of the masterpiece, its unique mode of execution, and its turbulent history, an integral part of the work’s appeal and power.
