Antico Presente

L'Accademia disegna – II edition

22 – 31 October 2019
Gregoriano Profano Museum, Vatican Museums

The second edition of Antico Presente. L’Accademia disegna (Ancient Present. The Academy draws), an exhibition project born of many years of collaboration between the Vatican Museums and the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome, will begin on 22 October.

For ten days, in the evocative setting of the Gregoriano Profano Museum, the initiative – of high artistic, didactic and cultural value – will give exceptional visibility to the drawings rendered from life by fifteen students of various nationalities enrolled in the course on drawing from ancient art, held in the presence of the Vatican masterpieces of classical sculpture by Prof. Luigi Berto, lecturer at the prestigious Roman art academy, in coordination with Dr. Maria Serlupi Crescenzi, curator of the Department of Decorative Arts of the Pope’s Museums.

The project, in confirming and consolidating the formative opportunities offered to the new generations of students, revitalizes a centuries-old practice that over the centuries has seen artists come to the Vatican to draw the eternal models of ancient and Renaissance art.
